On August 2, 1976, a beautiful 5 ½ pound baby girl was born to Darrell W. Shaw and Anna G. Germer Shaw at Fort Smith, AR. Sunshine was always the light of her mother and father's eye having come into the Shaw family as the seventh child born to Anna and Darrell. That light went out October 15, 2021, as Sunshine suffered an accident at her home in Vernal, UT.
Sunshine enjoyed traveling with her family to 28 of the 5O states, to include Hawaii. She graduated from Weber High School and began working for the Internal Revenue Service. She also worked for Jake Johnstun at his Integrated Tax Office in South Ogden.
Sunshine enjoyed backpacking and camping trips to the mountains with her husband Shane; she developed a passion for fishing. Sunshine enjoyed cooking, gardening, diamond painting, tie- dying, and spending time with family and friends. She lived her life fully, and with unwavering compassion and tolerance toward all whom she knew. Her soft heart brought comfort to those who needed it. Her humor and beautiful smile were a daily blessing. She was a talented piano player and participated in many piano recitals. She also played the piano for the Ward Sunday School Services as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while living in North Ogden.
Sunshine is survived by her husband, Shane Ekstrom, Vernal, UT., and his three children. Her father Darrell Shaw Sr. (Wendy Compton Shaw), of Washington Terrace, UT., her sister Hollie A. Shaw of Tomah, WI., her brother Darrell W. Shaw Jr. (Teressa Shaw) Lamar, AR., five nephews, and three nieces. Sunshine was preceded in death by her mother Anna, three brothers, Christopher, Josh, Kirt, her sister Shawnie Hicken, and her niece Sarah Shaw.
A Viewing will be held on Friday 22 October at 10:00 a.m. followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 a.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary on 36th street in Ogden, Utah.
