IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Susan
Hansen (Kemp) White
October 27, 1943 – October 29, 2024
Susan Hansen (Kemp) White
Susan Hansen (Kemp) White passed away on October 29, 2024, surrounded by her family at her home at Hidden Valley Assisted Living. She was born in Ogden, Utah, on October 27, 1943, to Ray Sterling Hansen and Avon (Billie) Grow. Susan was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ben Lomond High School where she enjoyed dancing as a Bonnie Lassie.
Susan enjoyed spending time in her younger years in Farmington at the house of Hod and June Van Fleet, her aunt and uncle. She would enjoy attending the Van Fleet farm where she would get to ride Ribbon, the family horse. Her uncle Hod and Aunt June were very dear to her.
Susan married Mel Kemp and together they lived in Roy, Utah for 7 years before moving to Layton, Utah, where they raised 4 sons. The Layton house was well known to all her son's friends where many memories were built. Susan was like a mother to all. She would enjoy interacting with all the friends as well as feeding them, giving them rides, and cutting their hair. If one needed special attention, she would give it. Susan and Mel were later divorced.
Snow skiing was Susan's specialty, and she was good at it! She would take her teenage boys and tell them "Keep up or go home," and the hot shot teenage boys had a hard time keeping up! Water skiing was her specialty number two. On Mother's Day when the water was still cold, she was the first one in the water asking for a ski. This also shamed the hot shot teenagers to jump in and ski!
Susan was an exceptional hair stylist. She worked a career in this field meeting many folks who became good friends. When curly perms were in style in the 80s, she was the go-to. She curled many of her son's and their friend's hair, mostly free of charge.
When her son's left the nest, Susan married Lew White and moved to South Ogden. The South Ogden house was well known to her grandchildren. Grandma Susan went crazy on Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and Halloween. The dinners were to die for, and the bingo games and Easter egg hunts were always something to look forward to. She was always doing something crazy such as showing up on your doorstep on Halloween so dressed up you couldn't tell it was her.
Susan also enjoyed golfing with Lew. They loved golfing at Wolf Creek in the Ogden Valley as well as in Mesquite, Nevada where they had a second home.
Susan is survived by her brother Neal Hansen and her sons Brett (Shelly) Kemp, Jeff (Tracee) Kemp, Ron (Carlene) Kemp, Dan (Michelle) Kemp. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister-in-law Gaylene Hansen, and her husband Lew.
A Celebration of Life will be held, November 14, 2024, from 5 pm to 7 pm, at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th street, Ogden, UT.
The family would like to thank the staff at Hidden Valley Assisted Living and A+ Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Susan.
