Susan Stirdivant-Yancey's Obituary

Susan Diane Yancey, age 70, was called back home to be with our Heavenly Father on Feb 4th, 2017. She passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones in Grand Junction, CO. She was born in Chicago, IL on June 14, 1946 to Melvin and Maude Stirdivant. They moved to Ogden, UT in 1955. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1963 and went on to attend Weber College. In August 1964, she married Dennis Frearson and they had two children; Mike in 1965 and Karen (deceased) in 1966. They divorced and in 1972, she married Roger Marengo. This marriage produced two sons; Greg in 1974 and Christopher in 1975. In 1995 she married Douglas (Gene) Yancey. She moved to several different states after her marriage to Gene; some of her favorites included Charleston, SC.; Virginia Beach, VA.; Melbourne FL.; Key West FL.; New Orleans LA and back to Pensacola FL. She has spent the last five years in Fruita, CO by her family. She was employed at Hill AFB starting in 1965 and Clark AFB Philippines and left federal service in 1995 again at Hill AFB. She had 11 precious grandchildren; Shawn, Brian, CJ (Karen) Dustin, Trista, Melissa, Michael (Mike Rose) Jaquoi, Zachary, Kyle (Greg Samantha) Devyn (Chris Erica) and 15 great grandchildren. She always loved her beautiful flowers and birds that visited her many backyards and all the varieties outside of Utah. Reading and cross-stitch were hobbies she loved, but spoiling her grandchildren was her passion. After Karens death in Dec 1989, she discovered a talent for writing and public speaking. She advocated with the Utah Highway Patrol about seat belts and safety. Most of all, she loved her family and loved spending time with them. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be greatly missed. Thank you for your courageous example of compassion for others, which is the legacy you left for all of us. She was preceded in death by her daughter Karen; brother Melvin and parents, Melvin and Maude.
