Obituary

Susan ("Susie") Jane Loring Vaughn, Registered Nurse, was peacefully reunited with her Heavenly Father on August 1st, 2024, at the age of 72, in her home in South Jordan, Utah, with her children by her side.

Susie was born Susan Jane Tufts to Blaine Edward Tufts and Carolyn Jean Spofford on August 7th, 1951, in Lynn, Massachusetts. She was raised in Peabody, Massachusetts and was the oldest of three children. She attended Peabody High School and graduated in 1969. During high school she worked as a "Candy Striper" (nurse's aide) at a local senior home. She also worked as an administrative assistant at P. Tavilla Wholesale Foods at the New England Produce Center in Chelsea, Massachusetts from 1968 to 1970. She married her high school sweetheart, Larry Ward Loring on May 22nd, 1970 (later divorced). They had three children, Larisa, Sean and Shari.

During her first marriage, she moved with her family around the Pacific Rim as an Air Force wife, finally settling in Utah in 1982, where she spent the rest of her life in Provo, Bountiful, Pleasant Grove, and South Jordan.

Susie held a lifelong interest in nursing, partly inspired by her work as a candy striper in high school. In particular, she enjoyed working with children. After finding herself a single mother, she decided to follow that dream and obtained her degree as a registered nurse from Weber State University in 1988. She worked as a pediatric nurse from 1987 to 2010, at Primary Children's Hospital, South Davis Hospital, and the Developmental Center in American Fork, Utah.

In 2014 she moved to The Charleston Assisted Living Home, where she met and married her sweetheart, J. Franklin ("Frank") Vaughn. They were married from 2015 to 2024, when Frank passed away in January.

Family was her most cherished aspect of life. She found enjoyment in the simple things that brought her family together, whether it was spending time with Frank playing games, watching movies, or doing crafts. She always looked forward to attending family activities such as birthdays, holidays, lunch outings, or shopping. Her eyes would light up anytime she had friends or family visit. She loved giving gifts to everyone especially her children and grandchildren, even if it was something as simple as a bag of candy, a stuffed animal, or a craft she made. Susie had the biggest heart and never wanted anyone to leave empty handed. She always wanted her grandkids to feel special. She loved teddy bears, the colors pink and purple, puppies and kittens, knitting, crocheting, shopping at Walmart, and laughing.

Devout in her belief of God, she was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Susie is survived by her devoted 3 children, Larisa Walker (Glen Allen), Sean Loring (Eliane), Shari Mark (Uriah); brother, Mark Tufts; grandchildren, Lauren Mitchell (Kooper), McKay Walker, Dorilyn Loring, Lanna Loring, Deakin Loring, Jerris Loring, Jordan McNair, Johanna Mark, Lucas Mark; great-granddaughters, Scottlee Mitchell and McKayla Mitchell.

Preceded in transition to our heavenly father by her parents, Blaine and Carolyn Tufts; her brother Dexter Tufts; son-in-law, Ryan Walker; and husband, J. Franklin Vaughn.

The family extends gratitude for the loving care provided to Susie in her last 6 months by her constant caregivers at Copper Creek Assisted Living.
