Thomas Aikens's Obituary

Thomas Aikens, a man esteemed for his warmth, wit, and unwavering devotion to family, passed away peacefully at home on March 24, 2026, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 9, 1944, in Ogden, Utah, Thomas’s life was a testament to the enduring values of love, laughter, and dedication.

Retiring after more than 25 years of exemplary federal service, Thomas devoted his professional life as a machinist for aircraft and support equipment at Hill Air Force Base. His commitment to his craft and country was unwavering, a source of pride and honor that marked his distinguished career.

Thomas possessed a remarkable sense of humor, always quick with a joke or a mischievous prank that brought joy and lightness to those around him. His presence was enlivened by laughter, and this gift for levity is one of how many will remember him most fondly.

An avid coin collector, Thomas delighted in amassing rare coins, yet his true pride lay in the more playful pranks with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He amassed spare pennies, nickels, and dimes—enough to fill five-gallon water bottles—and delighted in challenging the younger generation to try and lift these hefty containers. His passion for golf endured throughout his life; joining a golf league with friends from work years ago, Thomas nurtured this love into a lifelong pastime. The golf course was his sanctuary, and one of his deepest regrets was not being able to simply hit a few balls in his later years. His most cherished memories were woven through countless golf tournaments and the camaraderie shared therein.

Closely surrounded by his beloved family in his final days, Thomas took solace in their presence and support. He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Judy Aikens; his sister, Shellann Kautzman; his son, Tom Aikens, and daughter-in-law, Cami Aikens; and his daughter, Kimberly Aikens-Ackerman, alongside her husband, Dave Ackerman. He also leaves behind a generous lineage of nine grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild—each a living testament to his enduring legacy.

He was preceded in death by his dear parents, Harold and Ronella Aikens; his brother, Russell (Kim) Aikens; and his sister, Jenora Facer.

We want to send a special thanks to Dr. Arango and his team along with the team from Symbii.

Thomas Aikens’s life was punctuated by moments of great joy, humility, and heartfelt connection. His spirit—a blend of humor, perseverance, and profound familial love—will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. In remembering Thomas, we celebrate a life richly lived and a man whose laughter and love echoed long beyond the bounds of time.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday May 14, 2026 from 5 - 8 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary & Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden.
