Toni Sue Gilbert was born on November 11th, 1950 to Wilford R. Thornock and Dona S. Thornock in Ogden, Utah. Toni passed away Monday, June 22nd, 2026 of complications from multiple myeloma with her husband by her side. She graduated from Bonneville High School in 1969 and later attended Weber State College.
Toni married Van A. Gilbert on April 16th, 1971. Together they had 3 children and were sealed together in the Ogden Utah Temple.
Toni was a true introvert. Those who took the time and care to really know her were blessed with what a truly wonderful person she was.
Toni loved gardening, reading and poetry but, most of all, she was passionate about writing. As a freelance writer, some of her work has been published in national magazines, national poetry contests, and in the URWA newsletter. She wrote her truth and would draw inspiration from her struggles, memories, and dreams. Toni self-published a poem book and memoir-based cookbook.
Toni is survived by her husband, Van A. Gilbert; her three sons, Heath (Erin) Gilbert, Cole (Jennifer) Gilbert, and David (Amanda) Gilbert; 7 grandchildren, a great grandchild, and her cats Gus and Mozie. Toni was preceded in death by her parents.
The family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and staff that poured their time, energy and heart into Toni.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 25th at 2:00 PM, at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah 84403, with a viewing held an hour prior, starting at 1:00 PM. Interment to follow at Aultorest Memorial Park.
