IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Val
Lott
September 16, 1937 – January 28, 2026
Val Dean Lott, 88, of Hooper, Utah, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 28, 2026. Born on September 16, 1937, to Jay Theon Lott and Evelyn Hess in Albany, California. He grew up in Ogden, Utah, alongside his sisters Janet and Julaine.
Val graduated from Ogden High School in 1955. He went on to build a long and dedicated career at Thiokol where he ultimately retired. He took great pride in his work speaking fondly of those he worked with and made lasting bonds of friendship.
In 1960, Val married Kaylene Larson and together they raised three children: Valerie, Kevin, and Darin. Though life later took them on separate paths, the family they built remained a central joy in their lives, filled with many fond memories.
Beyond his dedication to family and work, Val expressed his creativity and love for the outdoors in many personal pursuits. He took immense pride in his home, especially his immaculate yard and gardens. His hands were equally skilled in building and creating, whether remodeling parts of his home, constructing full additions or even building an entire truck from the frame up. His passions extended to the outdoors including horses and deer hunting, a tradition that brought him great joy. Among his proudest accomplishments was winning a big buck contest an achievement that became one of his favorite stories to share with family and friends.
Val is survived by his sister, Julaine Hicks of Willard Utah; his daughter Valerie Sowers of Chandler, Arizona; daughter-in-law Linda Lott and his son Darin Lott. He leaves behind eight grandchildren: Christopher Allred (Jolene), Andrew Allred (Nicole), Logan Sowers (Allison), Kolbe Lott, Taylor Lott (Nicole), Kyle Lott (Mykel), Aaron Lott, and Emily Lott; and ten great-grandchildren: Greysen, Davis, Kody, Lizzy, Brock, Cooper, Peyton, Maisie, Nora, and Malcolm.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jay T. Lott and Evelyn Pinell; his sister, Janet Cooper; brother-in-law Willie Hicks; son-in-law Rodney Sowers; his son Kevin Lott; and granddaughter, Morgan Chae Lott.
