Vard H. Orrock peacefully passed away on March 3, 2016 after 94 wonderful years. He was born on July 9, 1921, in Mount Pleasant to William Marvin Orrock and Nettie Howarth, Nettie died when he was very young leaving three boys, Dick, Vard and Phil. His father later married Venetta Stansfield and together they had three more children, Lois, Fred, and Bill. They moved to Ogden where Vard graduated from Weber High School in 1939. He attended Utah State University, University of Utah and received an Associates Degree from Weber College.
He served in U.S. Navy in World World II from 1942 to 1945 and was aboard the U.S.S Meade destroyer. After the war, he played the sax in his own band, the VO5. He was married to Dorothy Meyer from August 1944 until her death in 1998 (54 years). He worked with his father-in-law George Meyer at the Ogden Dental Lab, later becoming the owner/operator. He retired in 1983 after 53 years. He was president of the Utah Dental Laboratory Association in 1965. He was president of the Patio Springs Country Club in 1969.
In 1999, he married N. Sue Rice joining their two families. He always said he was the luckiest man in the world to find two such wonderful women. He leaves his sons Bob, Jim (Jan Stephenson) and Jack (Cathy Campbell). Two more children were added after his marriage to Sue: Vicki (Ron) Geary and Kevin (Marne) Rice. He has a blended family of 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was an active member and high priest in the LDS Church. He and Sue served missions at the Bishops Storehouse and at the Monroe Branch in Ogden. He loved playing golf with his three boys, his brother Phil and many, many friends. He scored three holes in one: two at ages 85 and 89. He was a master ping ponger and a longtime time member of the Weber State Wildcat Club. He also loved following Weber State and the Jazz.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, March 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Leavitts Mortuary. Friends may visit with the family prior to services from 1:00 to 1:45 p.m. at the mortuary.
Interment at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah.
