IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vern
Peterson
August 11, 1928 – October 8, 2025
In loving memory of Vern L. Peterson
August 11, 1928-October 8, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Vern L. Peterson on October 8, 2025, at the age of 97, a beloved member of both the Peterson and Marriott families.
Vern spent most of his adult life married to Joan Peterson (Marriott), the love of his life. Together, they blended their families and shared many happy memories.
He is preceded in death by his cherished wife Joan; their daughter Janice Marriott; sons Kyle and Scott Peterson; his parents Frank and Lydia Peterson; and his sister Elaine Peterson and daughter-in-law Zanaya Marriott.
Vern is survived by their children: Mark (Stacie), Pam (Tim), Paul, Laurie (Bob), and Cliff- along with their 21 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
A Life Well Lived
Vern was drafted into the U.S. Army following graduation from Central Missouri State College (now known as the University of Central Missouri).
Both Vern and Joan had children from previous marriages before they found one another. They were married on December 14, 1979 and shared a beautiful 30-year love story until Joan's passing in 2009- a loss Vern felt deeply every day. He lovingly called her "the jewel in his personal crown."
Together, Vern and Joan enjoyed attending professional baseball games (affectionately referred to as "stale hotdogs and warm beer nights" ), evenings at the symphony, and dancing at the Ogden Elks Club. They were also fortunate to travel extensively, thanks in part to Vern's retirement from Browning Company in 1984 after a 31-year career. They built many memories with their family including camping with their kids, playing Nintendo with the grandkids and the annual South Ogden Days barbecue when all of the family from both sides would gather together, share a meal, and watch fireworks from the yard.
Graveside Service
In accordance with Vern's wishes, no traditional funeral service will be held. However, family and friends are warmly invited to attend a graveside service on:

A Parting Message
His presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In his own words, written in a monograph dated June 3, 2009, Vern leaves us with this final message:
"It is my fondest hope that each and every one of you will be able to look forward from this time on to a life as free as possible."
