VERN DE VERE (DEE) WILCOX Ogden- Dee Wilcox passed away on January 4, 2013, at this home in Ogden, Utah. He is free again. Free to walk, run, jump and climb; no longer burdened by limping and wheelchairs. He has completed his earthly mission and our Father in Heaven has called him home. He was born on January 22, 1929, in Fielding, Utah to A. LaVern and Ina Petersen Wilcox and was raised in Salt Lake City and Ogden, Utah. He attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ogden High School in 1948. He also graduated from Weber College with an Associates Degree in Accounting and Business Administration and Brigham Young University with a Bachelor Degree in Governmental Accounting and Finance. On June 6, 1953, he married Elaine Stevens in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on November 11, 1956. Dee began his career in 1955 as Weber County Chief Deputy Auditor, followed by five consecutive terms as the Weber County Auditor and several years as Financial Manager of the Utah Retirement Systems before his retirement in 1985. Being an active democrat, he was a past treasurer of the Weber County Democratic Party and had been a delegate to both county and state conventions for many years. He was also active in civic and professional capacities, including past membership in the Ogden Junior Chamber of Commerce, Ogden Lions Club International, Business Manager of the local summer musical "All Faces West", past president of the Ogden Municipal Employees Credit Union Board of Directors, past member of the Utah Public Employees Association Board of Directors, Utah Retirement Systems Board of Directors, National Association of County Treasurers and Finance Officers Board of Directors and National Steering Committee on Taxation and Finance, served three consecutive terms on the Ogden City School Board and the Ogden/Weber Applied Technology College Board of Directors. As a member of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dee served in several callings, including Ward Home Teacher, Counselor in the YMMIA, Deacons Quorum Advisor, Finance Clerk in two separate wards, Stake High Councilor, Stake Auditor for two different stakes, Sunday School Teacher, Ward High Priest Group Leader and Gospel Doctrine Instructor. His family was the light in his life and he left them a legacy of love, devotion, and an unwavering testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He is survived by this loving and dedicated wife Elaine; children, Mitch (Jeri) Wilcox, Ogden; Holly (Mark) Allen, Washington Terrace; Nancy (Steve) Baker, Centerville; Heidi (Steve) Carruth, Riverdale; Shelley Winger Roberts, Ogden; 20 grandchildren 32 great-grandchildren. His 20 grandchildren, of which 12 are married: Fara Ann and Nathan Putnam, Nathan Mitchell and Camille Wilcox, Amy and Michael Hadley, Jason Mark and Aubrey Allen, Tiffany and Jacob Smith, Mandy and Jacob Tobin, Amber and Gordon Larsen, Jennifer and Todd Russon, Blake William and Kristen Carruth, Daniel Steven and Elizabeth Baker, Stacey and Danny Byington and Ryan Joseph and Shannon Wilcox. Eight are single, Jacob Dee Baker, Benjamin Joseph Baker, Nickolas Dee Wilcox, Luke Andrew Winger, Jeffrey Mark Winger, Alyssa Ann Baker, Noah Wilcox Baker (deceased), and Elizabeth Elaine Roberts.He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Noah W. Baker, a sister, Jean Wilcox Vaughn and a son-in-law, Mark A. Winger.Funeral will be held Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden. Friends may visit with family on Thursday, January 10, 2013 from 6:00 pm 8:00 pm at Leavitts Mortuary and Friday from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 am.
