Vesta Elayne Gould Roberts, 85 of Ogden, passed away peacefully in her home on August 21, 2022.
Elayne was born at home on May 25, 1937, to Herbert Ray Gould and Vesta Elizabeth Johnson Gould in Ogden, Ut.
Elayne graduated from Ogden High School in 1955, and then continued on to attend Weber State College with a focus on Secretarial Studies. She then went to work for a law firm, where her uncle Calvin Gould was an attorney. She excelled as a secretary and during that time met her beloved future husband on a blind date.
On April 10, 1959, she married Charles Everal Roberts in the Logan Utah Temple, where they were married for time and all eternity. They went on to build a loving and large family with six boys and two girls.
After Charles and Elayne started their family, Elayne was primarily a stay-at-home mom, which was the job she loved the most. Throughout the years Elayne worked periodically to help with the cost of braces, extracurricular activities for eight children, Church missions, and weddings, but only as needed. Her primary focus was always her family.
After her sweet husband retired, Elayne went back to work at the IRS as a Tax Examiner and subsequently worked for 20 more years before retiring. In her spare time and in her retirement years, Elayne enjoyed crocheting numerous baby blankets for grandchildren and loved ones. She also had a great life-long love for family history and spent many hours finding and preparing names for temple work to be done. The “hobby” she loved the most though, was her family. She graciously and willingly sacrificed countless hours babysitting her grandchildren and great grandchildren, loving them and making them feel like they were her favorite.
She was a life-long faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and served in many callings including, Primary President, Primary Pianist, Counselor in many Relief Society Presidencies, Ward Organist, along with numerous other callings. She also served two Church missions with Charles: One in the Ogden Spanish Branch when they were newly married, and the other at the Ogden Monroe Branch in their retirement years. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and loved the Lord, and it was one of her greatest joys to share the Gospel with everyone she came in contact with. She was known for her tireless service to others and was a friend to all she met.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Charles, her parents Herbert and Vesta Gould, her stepfather Grant J. Shaw, her brother Robert (Diane), and her stepsister Anna Mae Shaw Quarnberg.
She is survived by her older sister, Gloria Hathaway, all eight of her children; Douglas (Tamara) Roberts, Jill (Preston) Venable, Travis (Deborah) Roberts, Dale (Cindy) Roberts, Ginger (Eric) Hales, Troy (Sonja) Roberts, Scott (Melinda) Roberts, and Mark (Jennica) Roberts, along with her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
