Obituary

Wayne A. Marriott Wayne Allen Marriott, 94, passed away peacefully at home with loving family on October 8, 2011. He was born July 1, 1917 in Ogden, to Benjamin and Sarah Abraham Marriott. He was a lifelong resident of Ogden. He married the love of his life Deon Nebeker on December 17, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were blessed with four daughters and one son. Deon died in 1983.Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1936-1937 and played saxophone in the army band. He was a machinist for the Southern Pacific Railroad retiring after 39 years. He was a member of Elim Lutheran Church. He was a Mason for over 50 years and Past Master of Weber Lodge #6. He was a member of Beth Arabah Chapter Eastern Star #24, White Shrine of Jerusalem #2, past president Golden Hour Kiwanas Club and 20 year member of Three Link Tower Residence Council. He received the silver bowl award for volunteerism from Governor Leavitt in 1995. He was the 2000 Weber County senior citizen of the year. He volunteered many years at the St. Annes Mission in the soup kitchen, and delivered hundreds of bags of groceries to needy families for Share Inc. He also spent many hours driving residents of Three Link Tower to the store and doctors. Wayne loved spending time with his family, especially Holiday and Birthday parties. He loved getting phone calls, letters and pictures from his daughters and grandkids. He enjoyed participating in activities with his friends at Three Link Tower especially bingo and bus trips to Wendover. Wayne lived humbly, preferring to give to charities but died a rich man having many that love and miss him. Wayne is survived by his son, Wayne Marriott Jr. of Ogden, daughter Sharon Neely Greenwood, Indiana, 13 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren and 24 great, great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three daughters, Patricia Malan, Betty Mcdonald and Billie Jean Waterman, one great granddaughter and one great, great granddaughter. The family wishes to thank his senior companion Mike Gross, Joe Vigil and the hospice at Caregiver Support Network, especially Carolyn and Linda. Funeral services will be held at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. Family will meet friends Tuesday, October 11, 2011 from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services also at the mortuary.
