Wesley "Bill" Stanfill, born January 14, 1922 in Granite City, IL., died in Modesto, CA on January 27, 2013 at the age of 91. He is survived by his two daughters, Judith Citron of Martinsburg PA, and by Karen Sue Ipson of California, MO. He has 6 grandchildren and 7 great grand children. He was preceded in death nineteen years earlier by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Dorothy Rhodes. Bill was the son of Joseph F. Stanfill and Shirley Perkins and was the second of four sons, all of whom preceded Bill in death. In 1997, Bill married Doris Melnikoff, who also preceded him. Bill served in the US Navy and was engaged in many military campaigns throughout the world. He performed heroically during the attack on Pearl Harbor as he helped to save the battle ship Nevada. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Warrant Officer after 20 years of service to his country. Bill was a 32nd degree Mason and a lifetime member of Masonic Lodge #835. He was baptized as a member of the LDS Church March 4th, 1995 and later served as Secretary to the High Priest Group in his Ward. For a number of years he served as a faithful temple patron. Bill was a good and honest man and had no guile. A hallmark of his personality was his helpful nature. His family will never forget that familiar strain from Bill; "Do you need some help?" We will always be grateful for his influence in our lives. Rather than flowers the family requests that you send a donation to the Alzheimers Foundation of America Viewing will be on Saturday February 9, 2013 from 10:00 a.m to 10:45 a.m.at Leavitts Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, UT 84403. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 am. Bill will be interred at the Huntsville, Utah Cemetery where Military Honors will be accorded.
