William Clark Carter, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 in Bountiful, Utah. He was born on June 23, 1934 in Highlandville, MO, the third child of Robert H. and Alta A. Carter. He had been a student at Lexington High, in Lexington, NE before joining the US Navy aboard the U.S.S. Philippine on August 22, 1951 serving until December 6, 1955. On December 7, 1955 he joined the U.S. Air Force working as a MMS mechanic and served until September 1, 1973.
In the middle of serving in the military, when stationed at Cannon AFB, he met Mary Elizabeth "Beth" Norris and married on 8 February 1958 and had two children, Anita C. Beckstead and William "Ray" Carter. Upon retiring from military service, in Clovis, NM he worked for Harts International and Massey Ferguson as a mechanic before opening his own shop "Bill's Auto Performance". His passion was being a mechanic (auto and the like), racing (of all kinds) and gambling (he was the 'Scratch Off' King). He is survived by his daughter, Anita (David) Beckstead and son, Ray (Frances) Carter and was a proud grandfather to two grandchildren, Erika (Chris) Lerke and Christian Carter and two great-grandchildren, Emma and Hunter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beth Carter, his parents, Robert H. and Alta A. Carter and his siblings, Roberta (Donald) Doudney, Paul (Ruth) and Neal (Bonnie) Carter. He will be laid to rest at Lawn Haven/Mission Gardens on 7th Street, Clovis on December 21, 2023 @ 1:00 p.m.
