William Niels (Billy) Degn passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at McKay-Dee Hospital after a sudden onset of cancer. Billy was born July 10, 1941 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Victor and Alma Degn. He spent most of his childhood in Ogden, graduating from Weber High School. Following graduation, Billy set off on the first of many adventures in his life, joining the Air Force and serving four years in Amarillo, Texas. He then worked for Skaggs in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma. In 1977, Billy returned home to Utah, heading toward lifes next adventures, beginning as a member of the ski patrol at Snow Basin. He then worked as State Fire Warden and eventually getting a job as a firefighter for Weber County working in Eden, a place he called home for many years until he medically retired due to injury. Each of these opportunities came with lifelong friendships that Billy cherished. Adventure in Hawaii was waiting, and Billy lived on the Big Island for four years following a final retirement from retail management and real estate. Bill was always at home on the beach with a cold drink and a Jimmy Buffett song playing on the breeze. Billy married Carla Jean Roberts in 1982, his beautiful wife and partner through each of lifes adventures. They had one daughter together, Jessica, who is the light of their lives. Billy is survived by his wife, Carla, daughter Jessica (Cody Alverson), sons Christopher (Kristi) and Tony, four grandchildren, Christian, Victor, Matthew and Kadee, and brother, David Degn. He was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Alma, parents-in-law Alton and Enna Roberts, and sister, Susan Degn McPeck. Billys life included many friends and relatives who had a remarkable influence on his life, some since his days at Weber High School. These friendships will always be special for Billy and Carla. A celebration of Billys life will take place at El Monte Golf Course Clubhouse from 3:00-5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013. Bring a potluck dish, a cold one and memories of Billy to be shared.
