William Theodore (Ted) Sorensen passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at the age of 96. He was born July 4, 1920 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Anton J. T. and Clara Marinda Sorensen and spent his youth in Meadow, Fillmore and Bountiful, Utah. After graduating from Davis High School in 1938, Ted attended the University of Utah. He married Rae Brinley of Las Vegas, NV on April 19, 1952 in the St George Utah LDS Temple.
Ted learned to fly at the U of U and received a private pilot license. He joined the US Navy and graduated in naval aviation at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida on December 8, 1941-the day after the attack on Pearl Harbor. Teds naval career lasted 28 years and he retired at the rank of Commander in 1969.
During WWII, Ted extensively flew combat missions throughout the Aleutian Islands and South Pacific and received several military awards including the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross, and Air Medal. After the war, Ted and Rae enjoyed assignments in London, England, Bethesda MD, Pearl Harbor HI, and Monterey CA.
After his military career, Ted and Rae lived in Bloomington, Utah where Ted enjoyed golfing and working with a mining and land development company.
Ted was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various Ward and Stake callings. He loved to attend the temple and continued to achieve his goal of one hundred endowments a year for several years.
Ted is survived by his daughter, Toni (Dennis) Bills of Fruit Heights, Utah; and three grandchildren, Jared (Teresa) Bills, Jordan (Cindy) Bills and Staci Grange.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife, Rae.
He is loved and will be fondly remembered as "Uncle Ted by his many nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Graveside Services with military honors will be held Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Leavitts Aultorest Memorial Park, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah with Bishop D. Todd Stevenson officiating.
