William Bill Stettler William (Bill) Donald Stettler, beloved husband, father and businessman, passed away January 26, 2011, at the age of 85, due to a head injury after slipping on ice. He was born to Albert Stettler and Ethel Bayley on October 24, 1925, in Brigham City, Utah. After graduating from Davis High School, Bill joined the U.S. Army Air Corp where he proudly served his country in the 15th Air Force, 463rd Bombardment Group, and the 772nd bomb squadron in Foggia, Italy. During WWII, Bill flew 13 missions over Germany as a tail gunner in a B-17 Flying Fortress. When the war ended, he married the love of his life, Betty Jean Cottam, on February 6, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised five children: Craig, Kathleen (Erickson), Scott, William Kent and Jonathan Daniel. During the early years with his family, Bill owned a small grocery store called the Liberty Market on 27th Street in Ogden. Bill then joined Robbins Brokerage in Salt Lake. In 1978, he and his family opened Bolt Nut Supply Company in Salt Lake. The business soon expanded to include Ogden, Midvale and West Salt Lake. Bill worked tirelessly and assisted the company until the day he died. As a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bill served as a Bishop, High Councilor and in many other positions. Bills most enjoyable calling was assisting at McKay-Dee Hospital in the pastoral care where he served for 25 years. When summers came, Bill enjoyed making cotton candy and Sno cones at local fairs, and he loved working in his garden and with the many flowers that adorned his home. Friends always knew it was Christmas, as Bill busily prepared peanut brittle and fudge during the holidays to give to his friends, neighbors and family. Bill loved his 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Albert, Roy, George, Lawrence and Harold. He is survived by his sister, Elaine Beus, from Kuna, Idaho. Family will meet with friends at Leavitts Mortuary, 836-36th Street, in Ogden on Friday, February 4, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the LDS chapel at 33rd and Jackson Avenue in Ogden on Saturday, February 5, at 11 a.m. Friends and family may also call an hour before the funeral services at the LDS chapel.
