William Richard Thompson passed away unexpectedly on April 10th, 2022. He was born in Layton, UT on May 16th, 2002.
William was a loving, soft-hearted and caring person. One of his favorite activities was playing games online with his best friends Jacob, Kenyon and Jarom. He could often be heard laughing and talking way too loudly while engaged in a game with them. They loved going to Snowbasin together where they would climb up to some of the highest off-trail areas of the resort and experience the joy of riding through pristine powder. This past summer he purchased his first split snowboard to use in the backcountry. He was so excited to be learning something new to further his snowboarding skills. Our family has skied for over 10 years together and many of our fondest memories are of those times spent together.
Will was attending Weber State University on a presidential scholarship and was majoring in Data Analytics. His favorite extracurricular activity was going to the university’s climbing gym. He would come home and immediately start telling us about a new bouldering route he had climbed with a higher difficulty level than before. He was very aware of how much stronger his fingers, hands and legs were becoming and the improvement in his muscle strength and stamina was enabling him to try routes with increased levels of difficulty each time he went.
Will loved learning new things and he was eager to explore new ideas and ways of doing things. His passion for cooking began after he discovered the sous vide’. He made many delicious meals for us and was always searching for what would become his next new specialty. His love for cooking and the sharing of meals he helped prepare, are one of the many things we will miss about him.
William was cherished and loved dearly by his parents, Doug and Julie Thompson, his sister Anna and our four-legged family member Shelby, who William showered with affection every time he walked into the house. He will be deeply missed by his closest friends and extended family: Grandparents, Dick and Donna Thompson, Neva and Gerald (predeceased) Anderson; Uncles Maury (Wendy) Anderson, Daniel (Kelli) Anderson, David Thompson; Great Uncle Gaylen (Nadine) Anderson; and Andrea (Cory) Nebeker who were cousins that held the place of an aunt and uncle in William’s life.
A gathering to remember and celebrate William’s life will be held on May 16, 2022, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Leavitt’s Mortuary, 836 36th St, Ogden, UT.
